Our classes are held on Monday nights in Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, Lána Muilleora (Miller's Lane), Knocknacarra, which is opposite Dunnes Stores - see our Google map for the location of the Gaelscoil. Classes are group based and are 45 minutes duration. Start times are 7pm and 7.45pm, depending on instrument and level. We run two music terms - from September to December and from January to May.

Classes are open to children over six years of age, and adults. They're available at all levels, from complete beginners to advanced. We have a bank of instruments that are available for rent to students attending our classes, priority is given to new students and the rental rate is €55 for the year. A refundable deposit of €100 is required when renting a harp.

Please note that classes can only be provided where we have sufficient demand for the selected instrument or level. Also, adult-only classes can only be provided where there is sufficient demand.

We currently provide classes on the following instruments:

  • Fiddle
  • Box accordion
  • Harp
  • Uilleann pipes
  • Flute
  • Banjo
  • Mandolin
  • Tin whistle
  • Concertina
  • Guitar

We also run two 'Grúpa Cheoil' groups, one for our younger students and one for our older students. These groups feature ensemble playing by up to twenty students, playing various instruments and performing an arrangement of Irish traditional music e.g. jigs, reels, slow airs etc. The students attend the 'Grúpa Cheoil' class directly after their normal instrument class. Below are links to videos of some Grúpa Cheoil groups.
